This high-back, heavily-carved oak chair was donated to the Borough of Shrewsbury Council for the use as "The Mayor's Chair" when borough business was conducted in the adjacent Lippincott-Meacham-Tallman-Wardell manor house (c.1820) prior to relocating to Borough Hall in 2003. Mayor Dorothy Blair Manson (1979-1990) conducted the affairs of the borough while seated in this ornate chair.
George LaFante, a noted local furniture craftsman, provided the fabric and the labor to reupholster it in rich burgundy velvet. In 2022, the chair was again reupholstered by SHS lifetime members, Judi and Stuart Buncher.
The chair probably was a product of the M.C. Lilley & Co, Columbus, Ohio. The company specialized in producing high quality ornate regalia chairs for societies, clubs and fraternal organizations.
